Especially those who want to save calories and like to reach for light products. But an excellent conscience can, unfortunately, have its price because not everyone tolerates the sugar substitutes used.
Everyone dreams of eating with pleasure, doing without anything, and still staying slim and slender. That’s why so-called light products are so popular. They promise the same taste as the standard version with far fewer calories. In the meantime, almost every food has a light version, including yogurt, sausage, cheese, and drinks.
Unfortunately, not everyone can tolerate the sugar substitutes often used here. Web.de explains in a report why reaching for goods with less sugar can even be an honest mistake for people with intolerances.
Caution with fructose intolerance
The reason is that the industry often replaces household sugar with fructose. Fructose is much more intensively sweetening, so you get a similar sweetness from it in a much smaller quantity. However, those who do not tolerate fructose are quickly threatened with abdominal pain and diarrhea when consuming it.
Even those who instead look specifically for light articles without fructose will not necessarily be better off. This is because the food industry likes to use sorbitol as an alternative. Sorbitol is a well-known sugar substitute, but it is not a good choice for fructose-intolerant people because it has many more calories than refined sugar.
This alternative is better.
Because light products quickly have the effect that people spontaneously indulge in more, they are not necessarily weight loss guarantors.
Instead of buying the sometimes even more expensive light items, a balanced diet and sufficient exercise are better alternatives. Whether it is about maintaining or losing the desired weight, it does not matter.
